INTRODUCTION

For this UI design project, I was given the prompt of creating a web page commissioned by the government to highlight a U.S. state for visitors and outsiders. The goal was to provide an informative, engaging, and user-friendly experience for anyone looking to explore or learn more about the state. I chose to focus on Florida, aiming to capture its vibrant, sunny personality and diverse attractions across various cities.

My design centers around showcasing what each city in Florid has to offer - whether it's local events, must see landmarks, cultural experiences, or practical visitor information. I wanted users to easily navigate the state, city by city, and discover the unique flavor of each location. The interface was designed with a balance of functionality and visual appeal to reflect Florida's energy, warmth, and variety.

PERSONA

A persona was created to help guide the design process and ensure the website effectively met the needs of its target audience. By defining a clear user profile, I was able to focus on the goals, behaviors, and challenges of a typical visitor who would be using the site to explore Florida. This approach allowed me to make more informed design decisions - such as navigation structure, content organization, and visual style - based on user expectations and needs. The persona served as a reference point throughout the project to maintain a user-centered perspective and create a more intuitive and engaging experience.

IDEATION

To ensure the success of the project, I began by identifying and prioritizing the key elements that would contribute to an effective design. The primary focus areas included:

  • Visibility - Enhancing presence and ensuring it is pleasing to the eye of the viewer and information is easily seen

  • Visual Hierarchy - Organizing content in a clear, intuitive manner to guide user attention

  • Credibility and Trust - Building trust through professional design and accurate, helpful information

  • Expanded Categories - Providing links for more in-depth information and other activities that could not be comfortably included

  • Comprehensive Information - Providing users with in-depth resources to make informed decisions

DESIGN

The persona guided key design choices by focusing on the needs of typical users exploring Florida. It helped shape an intuitive, city-based layout with accessible, engaging content. Visuals and navigation were tailored to create a welcoming and user-friendly experience.

Design decisions influenced by the persona included:

  • City-based navigation: Users could easily browse information based on specific locations within Florida.

  • Clear activity categories: Grouped content such as "Things to Do," "Events," and "Nature & Parks" for quick access.

  • Responsive design: Ensured accessibility across mobile, tablet, and desktop for travelers planning on the go.

  • Dark, vibrant color scheme: Used rich tones and nighttime visuals to reflect Florida’s exciting nightlife and evening attractions.

  • Simple, intuitive layout: Prioritized ease of use for users unfamiliar with the state.

  • Engaging visuals and icons: Used photos and city-themed graphics to make the experience more dynamic and appealing.
